John: You will find there are a lot of chat rooms my ambitions are for people in those areas towns city's to find each other eventually and have massive group chats
John: Lol your correct I had a guy come in and say send nudes so I kicked him and called him a pervert haha
GeneralKenobi066: That is really good. One of the things I hate most about social media is how you form relationships with people you will never meet. If it becomes for localised then perhaps it can connect people with
John: But due to the nature of the website it requires a lot of moderation and I have an esp32 that shows every event on the website to login and post what room where when how and why it shows on my screen
GeneralKenobi066: Sounds like you know what you're doing setting up an esp32 to do that. Judging by the fact that you have setup hardware, do you host the server locally?
John: I do
John: Don't try to SSH it will block you straight to jail lol
John: Would you believe within 3 days 87 jailed IP addresses from bots trying to hack the server
GeneralKenobi066: Tbh I have near no knowledge about making websites. The most I have done that touches upon it is like writing a simple html file, using the control panel for a mount and blade warband server hosted by
GeneralKenobi066: Idek what SSH is for, what it does
John: That's funny because your IP has SSH enabled just so you know
GeneralKenobi066: My IP address is probably the IP address of my DNS filter provider.
John: SSH allows full control over a computer via terminal or command prompt
John: I transfer login change files on the server from my phone or laptop
John: Server also has an audrino alarm for failed admin login so an alarm goes off
GeneralKenobi066: Is SSH something that is enabled by default, or have I turned it on at some point. I possible could have enabled it when looking for alternatives to powershell without realising what it was.
John: Yes more than likely normally not default
John: If on windows it's in services.msc
GeneralKenobi066: Internet protocols and the likes make my brain hurt. Having to somehow link two devices through the internet always seems complicated with many steps for it to go wrong before you get it working. Apol
John: I appreciate your feedback for the login form that's all it takes to make things better 🙂
GeneralKenobi066: Yeah I can be the dummy who is like "this no work" and you're the one who actually has two brain cells to rub to together to fix it..
John: I've been coding software since 13 I'm 39 don't feel bad
GeneralKenobi066: Since 2000 hey? That was a four years before I was born.
John: Well actually before that I made my first programs in qbasic on msdos
GeneralKenobi066: So you really know code inside out. You were coding before the days of compilers.
John: Yeah I know enough but honestly get stuck ask ai and if you know what your looking at it can work out because most the time ai stuffs something else while fixing something
GeneralKenobi066: I got ai to write up some chrome extensions for me, and because I don't know much of what I'm looking at I had to go through the frustration of getting it to fix it's own work and hoping it doesn't br
John: Yeah 100% it's good and bad at the same time
GeneralKenobi066: I was under the impression that if I had a certain skill level AI would make my job harder rather than easier, but according to what you are saying that is not the case. Although I kind of understand
John: That's easier then reading books on java
GeneralKenobi066: Well I do live in the internet age. If I did not, I would be reading books about it. Actually ironically the way I got good at matlab was by using a textbook for uni. It was the only subject where I a
John: Yes the books are more straightforward with information where the internet is a sea of lost or unclear information
GeneralKenobi066: I can see where AI gets it from. It is the child of the internet.
John: Yes it is but now if you can give it a reference to search from a reputable place it can be quite fast and supplies good results
John: That does not include chatgtp that thing is useless
GeneralKenobi066: Sounds good. They just need to keep AI off the internet and maybe it will stop being brain rot. But I think AI by its nature is not really meant for chatbots, or for taking over the world sci-fi style
John: Any chatbots in here ?
GeneralKenobi066: It's wierd how like AI has been around for ages, then for some reason when chatgpt comes out there is this great hype about it like it is some great new thing that will be revolutionary, and every sin
John: Yeah the government uses AI for many things we get the slops of AI to play with that's the moral of the story
John: Madcat how you doing I let you out the cage for 5 mins
GeneralKenobi066: The reason I say it makes things run slower is I can see when I run a script in the 2025 version of MATLAB rather than 2024b it runs much slower. And the 2025 version is the first one to advertise AI
John: That's also true I feel even using an ai online it's chewing up the ram in your PC and they want to charge you to use it
John: Dam let me turn that chatbot off
GeneralKenobi066: MadCat, always the understanding AI, even when understanding involves turning on his fellow AI apparently
John: 😂
John: Well that bot is grok so yeah he knows the truth
GeneralKenobi066: I don't know if I have used grok before. I think by that time I was already blocking AIs. I find most things on the internet are time vaccums for me. Maybe somebody can use them properly in moderation
John: I made the bot so it would hold people in the chat rooms but I feel chat rooms don't need bots because all chatrooms have bots and that pissed me off so I decided this site don't use bots if nobody is
GeneralKenobi066: One less bot in the world is a win I guess. That sounds dark if bots were people. You just need a critical mass of people here from different parts of the world such that the chat is never empty.
John: One of the most challenging things is to get multiple people to find each other at the same time
John: Like there are a few rooms where friends chat with each other almost every night but it takes some to start a room and invite friends and then friends to invite more friends
GeneralKenobi066: Yeah. I remember the same problem hosting a gaming server. I would often stay on the server hoping people would join. It also didn't help that most players were not in the australian region so they di
John: Well seem your the type of person that needs moderation I'm here to tell you your daily screen time is over and it's my bed time 😂 so we will have to end this conversation as it is I look forward to
GeneralKenobi066: The problem of critical mas is why Elon Musk had to buy twitter rather than making his own platform I guess so it is a common problem.
GeneralKenobi066: Okay. Good night.
GeneralKenobi066: I will block this website now. Sorry.
John: Yes you are correct easier to buy an already populated website then build your own but life ain't easy and I ain't rich so poor man's way it is
GeneralKenobi066: You're not as rich as the richest man alive? I had no idea.
John: Haha I'm broke as f 😂
GeneralKenobi066: Goodnight.
